Music is one of the most subscribed co-curricular activities at GSIS. The Music Department of GSIS has a number of programmes scheduled for all students and offers a wide variety of music study instructions in both Western and Indian categories. Students are trained in a wide variety of Western musical instruments such as the Xylophone, Piano, Keyboard, Recorder, Toots, Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Guitars, Ukulele, Drums, Timpani, Djembe, Rondalla, Mandolins, Angklungs, Trumpets, Euphoniums, Horns, Trombones, Orff, Glockenspiels. Our students appear every year for the Trinity College London Theory & Practical Music Examinations. The students are also trained in a variety of Indian Music instruments like Veena, Violin, Mridangam, Chenda, Sitar, Tabla, Dholak, Flute, Tambourine and Ghatam.
Students are taught the diverse forms of Indian classical dance and also the various folk forms that flourish in different parts of India with distinct cultural and aesthetic appeals. We aim to bring together classically-trained dancers and at the same time encourage the rich folk culture of our country. The students are exposed to several classical dance forms in the inter-house dance competitions conducted at school. The students performed Kathak, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam and Mohiniyattam to name a few.
